Fun Facts About Andrew

Andrew’s professional journey started long before real estate — and long before most people even had their first job. At just 14 years old, he began working at a local retirement home, starting in the dish room and steadily working his way up through the ranks. What began as an after-school job quickly turned into a crash course in leadership, compassion, and hard work.

Over the years, his dedication didn’t go unnoticed. Andrew earned management roles and eventually transitioned to the corporate level, where he oversaw activities and events for more than 15 locations across the company. It was a big responsibility for someone his age, but it taught him something invaluable — that success isn’t just about moving up, it’s about making a difference.

Despite the corporate success, Andrew realized what he truly loved was the people. The residents, the conversations, the stories — those moments of real human connection made the biggest impact. And funny enough, it was many of those very residents who first planted the idea of real estate in his head, telling him he’d be a natural fit for helping others find a place to call home.

Taking their advice to heart, Andrew got his real estate license — and the rest, as they say, is history. What started as a teenage job became the foundation for a career built on care, communication, and genuine connection.

Andrew’s college years were anything but typical — he was already building the foundation for the career he has today. After graduating from Cleary University in Howell, Michigan, with a double major in Business Management and Marketing, Andrew was already knee-deep in the real world of real estate. While most students were still figuring out their next steps, he was helping clients buy and sell homes — learning the ropes, making connections, and sharpening his skills.

But he didn’t stop there. Always wanting to understand every side of the business, Andrew took on a part-time job at Home Depot, not just for the paycheck, but for the knowledge. He learned about renovation materials, ordering processes, and the behind-the-scenes details that so many agents overlook — all so he could better guide his clients through home improvement projects and property updates.

And somehow, he managed to balance it all while lacing up his skates for Cleary’s college hockey team. Between practices, classes, and closings, Andrew’s time at Cleary was more than just about earning degrees — it was about developing the discipline, work ethic, and passion that would carry over into every part of his life and career.

Andrew’s determination has always gone far beyond real estate — it’s part of who he is. Back in college, he noticed his university didn’t have a hockey team, despite having a rink just minutes away at the 140 Ice Den Arena. As a lifelong hockey player, he couldn’t let that go. During his freshman year, he tried to help kickstart a program, but at the time, the school had its attention elsewhere.

Fast forward a few years — by senior year, Cleary University finally decided to launch a team. The only catch? Andrew hadn’t played competitive hockey in over five years. Instead of sitting on the sidelines, he made a commitment to himself: train for a full year, get back into game shape, and make the roster. And that’s exactly what he did.

After months of dedication, early mornings, and late-night training sessions, he earned a spot on Cleary’s D1 ACHA hockey team — playing one unforgettable season before graduating. That experience didn’t just mark a return to the ice — it became a reminder of what’s possible with persistence, passion, and a little Michigan determination.

When Andrew isn’t helping his clients find their dream homes, he’s usually out making the most of everything Michigan has to offer. Whether it’s casting a line into one of the state’s countless lakes, exploring hidden hiking trails, or hopping on a dirt bike with his four brothers to rip through the trails of Northern Michigan, adventure is always on the agenda.

He’s a lifelong Michigander through and through — the kind of person who believes no summer is complete without time up north, no winter without a little pond hockey, and no fall without a color tour somewhere between Brighton and the Upper Peninsula. When he’s not outdoors, you’ll probably find him in the gym, watching hockey highlights, or planning his next road trip to uncover another underrated Michigan town (yes, even if it’s just an excuse to stop for a coney dog).

For Andrew, Michigan isn’t just where he works — it’s where his best memories are made. From the lakes and forests to the small towns and hidden backroads, he’s proud to call this state home and loves showing others why it’s such a special place to live.

When Andrew first stepped into real estate, he knew he didn’t want to blend in — he wanted to build something real, something that felt like him. From day one, he believed video would be the key to doing just that. Instead of cold-calling or knocking on doors, he wanted people to truly get to know him — his personality, his values, and his genuine passion for helping others — long before they ever picked up the phone.

That belief became the foundation of his Living in Michigan brand. He grabbed a camera, hit record, and started creating videos that broke down the buying and selling process in a simple, honest, and relatable way. Over time, those videos became more than just marketing — they built trust. They helped people across Michigan (and beyond) feel comfortable reaching out, knowing they were talking to someone who cared more about relationships than transactions.

For Andrew, it’s never been about flashy sales tactics or pushy pitches. It’s about educating, connecting, and creating a brand rooted in authenticity — and video has been his way of letting people see the real person behind the business.

RARELY DISCUSSED (6)

Beyond real estate and Michigan adventures, Andrew is deeply committed to giving back — especially to a cause that hits close to home. As someone living with a rare genetic disorder called Acute Intermittent Porphyria (AIP), Andrew knows firsthand the challenges that come with navigating a rare disease that few people understand. Instead of keeping that part of his life private, he decided to turn it into purpose.

He now serves on the Member Advisory Board for the American Porphyria Foundation, where he helps create awareness, advocate for better understanding, and connect with others who face similar struggles. Wanting to make an even bigger impact, Andrew co-launched Rarely Discussed — a podcast dedicated to shedding light on porphyria, mental health, and the often-overlooked human side of living with rare conditions.

He’s also used his creativity to design awareness merchandise, helping fundraise and spark conversations around rare diseases that don’t get nearly enough attention. For Andrew, this work is personal — it’s about using his platform, voice, and experiences to help others feel seen, supported, and inspired to keep going.

andrew.mcmanamon It’s funny, I’ve never been a person who’s cared about awards, accolades or getting patted on the back. The truth is, I never thought I would be a Realtor until a couple of retired guys said I should give it a try, so I did. I started in this industry at the age of 19 and I made a whopping $850 my first year (and hardly double that the second year). I have been chewed up and spit out more times than I can count: belittled, dismissed, you name it I’ve probably faced it. I gained momentum, started climbing, then covid happened, and I lost it all. Despite the constant hurdles, setbacks, and everyone telling me to not be a Realtor: “Why don’t you get a real job?”, “you’re too smart for this”, “you won’t last three years”, “you’re not a salesman, good luck..”, “what’d you get your degree for then?”, I stayed. Here I am almost 9 years later and aside from the constant ebbs and flows, I’m grateful for every second of it. In a world where talk is cheap, I’m glad I get to be a person people can lean on and trust. My only hope is that this magazine feature encourages you to take the leap on what gets you jumping out of bed in the morning, like I did. After the passing of my dad, I realized life is way too short to not do what you want. My dad spent his whole life building up for a plan he was never able to enjoy, and I had to learn that in the most painful way possible. Not only should you do what you love, but be your true self doing it. I was told I had to wear a suit everyday, shave my face, drive a better car, and it wasn’t until I decided to be unapologetically myself that everything finally started to click into place. I’ll never be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s the beauty of it all. I wouldn’t be able to wake up and do this everyday if it weren’t for all of you out there continuing to trust me with your massive life decisions, over the thousands and thousands of other Realtors out there. From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you enough for supporting me. Andrew #michigan #livinginmichigan #michiganrealtor #michiganrealestate

andrew.mcmanamon Living on a prayer heading into 2026 🥂 2025 was a hard year personally. A year ago today my dad received his official diagnosis with stage 4 cancer and it was hardly a few months later when he passed away. Although we all know that it’s part of life, you truly can’t brace yourself for the impact it’s going to have on you. Although he’s not here physically, we are dragging him along with us in 2026 and all the years to follow. Thank you to everyone who made the good parts of this year special and unforgettable. Can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for not just me, my family and friends but all of you too. Wishing you a healthy, happy and safe new year. I hope 2025 was one for the books.
