Fun Things To Do In Northville Michigan
Before making a trip out to Northville, Michigan, watch or read this guide in its entirety so you can fill your agenda with the best attractions, restaurants, and hidden gems that make this small historic city worth exploring.
Discovering Northville, Michigan
Northville is a small, historic town in southeast Michigan with a population of around 6,000 residents. Incorporated in 1867, Northville is one of the most charming communities in Oakland County, offering a blend of Victorian architecture, cultural experiences, and outdoor beauty.
I spend a lot of time here — in fact, my office is located downtown, conveniently across the street from Starbucks and next to one of my favorite breakfast spots, The Early Bird. Northville is one of those towns where simply walking around downtown feels like stepping back in time.
The homes here are beautifully restored, not replaced — full of character and craftsmanship you don’t see much anymore. The Victorian and Queen Anne architecture gives Northville an elegant yet cozy aesthetic, defined by intricate details like:
- Front-facing gables and decorative spindlework
- Polygonal or square towers
- Overhanging eaves and wraparound porches
- Classical columns and bay windows
- Monumental chimneys and second-story balconies
Even if you’re not into real estate, you’ll catch yourself admiring these homes. A quick drive through the neighborhoods will convince you this isn’t your average “cookie-cutter” community.

Explore Nature at Maybury State Park
If you’re looking to escape the city buzz, Maybury State Park is a must. Located in Northville Township, this 944-acre park offers a mix of rolling hills, mature forests, and open meadows perfect for a day outdoors.
You can enjoy:
- Horseback riding
- Hiking and mountain biking
- Fishing and picnicking
- Cross-country skiing in winter
Nearby, Maybury Farm offers family-friendly fun with seasonal activities like corn mazes, hayrides, and educational farm demonstrations. It’s a great stop for both kids and adults.

Northville’s Art and Culture Scene
Northville has an unexpected creative streak. For a town its size, it’s packed with art galleries, music studios, and theaters. Just off Center Street, you’ll find:
- Northville Art House (which offers classes and exhibits)
- FineArtFiber
- Dancing Eye Gallery
- The Northville Gallery
- McGuire’s Fine Art Gallery (currently listed for sale)
Art extends beyond canvas here — The Northville Center for Music, Broughton Music and Art Center, and the Tipping Point Theatre all celebrate the performing arts.
If you’re planning a visit, try to come during the Arts and Acts Festival, held the third weekend of June. The festival draws artists from across the country and includes contests, a chalk art competition, and family-friendly entertainment.

Where to Eat in Northville
Genitti’s Hole in the Wall
A true Northville staple, Genitti’s Hole in the Wall has been serving up unforgettable Italian food since 1971. Originally a grocery store, it evolved into one of Michigan’s most famous dining experiences — known for its seven-course family-style dinner, featuring Italian wedding soup, endless pasta, chicken, potatoes, and a cannoli to finish it off.
Genitti’s also doubles as an entertainment venue, often hosting dinner theater shows and events. If you love hearty Italian food and local history, this one’s non-negotiable.

Deadwood Bar & Grill
Another must-try is Deadwood Bar & Grill, an Adirondack-style eatery offering rustic charm and an expansive menu. It’s famous for its heated outdoor igloo dining, which seats up to 10 people and creates an unforgettable experience during Michigan’s colder months. There’s a $250 food and beverage minimum, but with an atmosphere like that, it’s worth every penny.
Events and Local Experiences
Northville hosts year-round events that showcase its small-town energy and creative community. Beyond the Arts and Acts Festival, you’ll find:
- Northville Farmers Market (May–October)
- Northville Victorian Festival
- Holiday Light Parade and Christmas in the Village
- Tunes on Tuesday (live summer music in Town Square)
